I grew up in suburban Minnesota, a child of the '80's. My mother was an elementary school teacher and my father worked in transportation logistics for 3M (Scotch Tape, Post-It Notes...). Starting at age 10, I developed a passion for storytelling, and specifically filmmaking. With the support of my family, I began taking summer production courses and working in public access television. I created my own mentorship program when I entered high school and worked on my first studio feature (D3: The Mighty Ducks) when I was 16.
In the time since, I have interned with well-known producers; worked as a director's assistant; completed a BFA in Film Production; was hired to direct my first feature film: Window Theory; produced my second: Stephen Tobolowsky's Birthday Party (starring Stephen Tobolowsky, Amy Adams, and Mena Suvari); directed several commercials for brands such as: Guitar Hero, Apple, Autotrader.com and TiVo, as well as a handful of music videos for up and coming recording artists. In recent times I have directed several comedic shorts with present and former members of The Groundlings, including SNL cast member Michaela Watkins. I have worked in various capacities on numerous television projects, and have extensive experience as an editor. If I was not working in film, I would probably be a copy editor, as I have been known to drive my friends to distraction correcting their grammar and spelling.
I have an affinity for long-haul travel, having journeyed to Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and most recently South Africa, where I worked with Hollywood Heart, a Los Angeles-based charitable organization that teaches children impacted by HIV/AIDS about the power of storytelling through film.
To paraphrase a quote often attributed to the late Henry Warner, “Film must do three things: entertain, educate, and enlighten.” I have adopted this as my personal mandate, and strive to include each of the three E's in every project I develop and produce.
